چکیده

Generally, humans can work properly and achieve optimal results when supported by good environmental conditions. The effect associated with the inconvenience of working environment be experienced over a prolonged period. Therefore, this study aims to determine ergonomic design model in reducing fatigue due Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Kuala Namu Airport, Deli Serdang – Medan, Indonesia. This is because it necessary consider physical condition or health conditions controllers enable company extend its services' life profitability. Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) research method used investigate upper limb disorders. RULA was developed as detect posture, which risk factor. designed assess workers musculoskeletal loads likely disrupt limbs. Under such conditions, management advised develop 'open management' based on political will, involves operators every step improvement, they have adequate ideas problems hand. Participation ergonomics enables employees their supervisors managers apply knowledge workplace enhance

Philippe Cabon Fatigue in air traffic control

Fatigue is known to be a major risk for safety in aviation. Even if an accurate quantification of the contribution of fatigue in accidents is currently impossible because fatigue is not systematically investigated by a standardised procedure, it is classified as one of the “most wanted” factors by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB): “The Safety Board has long been concerned about t...

The Multi-Airport Ground-Holding Problem in Air Traffic Control

In 1986, the total profits of the U.S. airline industry were of the order of $800 million, while its total delay costs due to congestion approached the figure of $2 billion. Motivated by this important problem of congestion costs and observing that ground delays are far more preferable than airborne delays, we have formulated and studied generic integer programming models in order to assign opt...

Air Traffic Control as Distributed Joint Activity : Using Clark’s Theory of Language to Understand Collaborative Working in ATC

Today’s air traffic control (ATC) systems rely on multi-agent collaboration when managing air traffic. The introduction of new technologies into this complex environment motivates a need to assess predictively the impact of future technologies on the work practices currently present within the ATC system. This paper uses principles associated with Clark’s theory of language use (Clark, 1996) to...

Ergonomic system design in air traffic control – Incorporating a user - centred approach

by André Perrott User-centred design has been one of the central factors for success in the design of consumer products. The importance of concepts such as usability, intuitive design and simplicity continue to increase in importance alongside the core need for functionality. Instead of technology being the only focus, it is now enlarged by a focus on the users – who can choose the product they...

Working Paper Reducing ergonomic risks at mixed-model assembly lines by job rotation scheduling

The proverb “a change is as good as a rest” expresses one of the main advantages of job rotation. In this article, we examine ways to set-up effective job rotation schedules that balance ergonomic risks among workers in mixed-model assembly lines. We show that the problem is NP-hard in the strong sense. Therefore, the development of specialized solution methods is important. Exploiting the prob...
